Oh, and remove the promise of great dialogue and an intriguing and operatic high-stakes plot. Now, take away the super powers that added some diversity to the battles, the sometimes necessary teamplay mechanic, solid aiming, and guns that felt heavy and great. Try this: imagine playing Mass Effect 2, with its so-so cover system, penchant for forecasting a gunfight by crowding a room with chest-high cover, and not-so-great enemy artificial intelligence. I feel bad even mentioning Gears of War in the same paragraph. Players have probably already seen several games far better than this. The games discourage kills and emphasize logical brain work and finesse, but nothing as complimentary can be said about Dog Days. Hitman is so breathlessly innovative, the rest of the industry has yet to catch up to its courageous pacificism. That was not easy for me to write, only because of my personal affinity for Io Interactive's flagship Hitman series. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days sucks big, fat, uncensored. As a result, the game feels as taboo as Japanese porn, so it's only fitting for me to describe the rest of the game as such: It even takes the time to censor out genitalia and some extreme gore with heavy pixelation. It's panicky, chaotic, and it deserves to be imitated. When things explode, static fills the screen. It's very engrossing, and when Lynch is momentarily downed by an enemy, you feel as close to the ground as he does. Hideously profane and nearly devoid of any thrills, the only highlight of Io Interactive's Kane & Lynch followup is the camera work and visual style, aping a YouTube look to give the entire game a documentary flair. I have faith the franchise, Kane and Lynch are terrific characters, but for their third outing the developers really do have to deliver an EPIC game for the ages and not a cheap quickie trading off a mediocre brand name.WTF: The level where you run around naked with more open bloody wounds than Jesus in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. It's primarily an online game with a story mode shoehorned in as an afterthought. I have to be honest, most of the game's lasting appeal and scope comes from the various online modes (which I have no interest in). The game gives away trophies like there was no tomorrow, but.the majority of them are for online play. The story mode can be completed in about four hours. You get to play as Kane in the last level, but for the bulk of the game he's just a background character helping you blast away at the legions of bad guys filling the screen. No big twists, no innovative narrative techniques. A battle rages across several locations as Kane and Lynch desperately try to escape the city. Before we can make sense of anything further two important people are dead and the anti-heroes are getting the blame. The story opens in Shanghai where Kane arrives to help Lynch with a lucrative opportunity. So he's basically just a generic run and gun anti-hero. In this game Lynch is on his meds, and his edge is blunt. This time you play as crazed psychopath Lynch, a man so anti-social he'd make Al Capone run and hide.

Jesper Kyd's gloomy music is gone (a shame, since I rather liked it), the camera system is radically different, and the partner system has also been done away with. Kane and Lynch 2 differs heavily from the 2007 game.
